Feeling Gutsy
Kevin LeCureux

That's right. At the moment I, er..., my computer is fetching the files needed to upgrade from Ubuntu 7.06 to 7.10, i.e. Gutsy Gibbon. What brought this on? The Christmas cheer? The long hours with nothing to do? Nope, it was Simcity.

Simcity 2000, to be exact. As in the classic build-a-city game. Sure it's 12 years old, but it's still fun. Problem is, when I run it under wine, it takes 100% of my CPU. And this is a game that ran great under Win95 on a Pentium 266 with 64MB of RAM!!!one! I believe the problemo lies in the video, chipset that is. Or maybe xorg. Not sure.

Anyway, the upgrade requires only a handful of new packages (150 or so), and 1100+ upgrades! Wow! That's gotta help something! I hope most of them aren't renaming-the-repository-to-gutsy updates. But if I recall correctly, Gutsy was supposed to get the latest and greatest Xorg  server. With any luck, and some prayer,  it will help. If not, then maybe I'll play with wine a little bit.

And in case you're wondering, I did get the latest wine package: 0.9.51.  Hmm, it appears, though, that my Xorg is two versions behind. We'll find out what happens in about an hour and a half (that's 1.5 hours for all you geeks).

In other news: Coming soon (I hope): Atom, comments, and maybe even Atomized comments.
